Penclawdd 52 Newcastle Emlyn 12

From the archive, first published Thursday 12th Jan 2006.

Newcastle Emlyn battled hard against table-topping Penclawdd and scored a try in each half but their makeshift side was unable to prevent `The Cocklemen' from securing their 12th win in as many matches as they trailed 45-7 at the break but restricted the homesters to a single score after the interval.

Strong-running centre Gethin `Blaengwrog' scored Emlyn's first try which fly half Huw Evans converted and No 8 Gareth Clifford added the second as reward for a good display in the back row. Rhodri Davies also played well as scrum half partner to Huw Evans but Emlyn were always under the cosh in the first half as the big home pack secured plenty of possession.

The Cocklemen had three tries from centre Rob Richards whilst busy flanker Richard Francis also crossed twice. No 8 Stuart Barrow and fly half Gareth Jones also claimed tries and full back Rhys Williams was on form with the boot as he landed an early penalty and all seven conversions, leaving Emlyn to hope for a speedy return of their walking wounded in the near future.
