It's a dog's life at Teifi Vets!

The Newydd Veterinary Centre is celebrating its first anniversary of being at 17 St Mary St, Cardigan.

The centre has now changed its name to become the Teifi Veterinary Centre, as the company feel it is more suited to their new location.

Emily McAteer, who is senior veterinary surgeon and part owner of the practice, has had a busy year setting up the new premises, and returning to full-time work after the birth of her baby boy.

The centre focuses exclusively on small animals, offering a high standard of care and a personal approach. Mrs McAteer said: "Our aim is to make sure that pets keep their quality of life. We tailor our approach to each animal and owner's needs."

"We are on call 24 hours a day, and take this very seriously, we'd rather clients called than worried, it's much better to reassure them. We make house visits and provide very peaceful euthanasia for pets at home."

Mrs McAteer trained in Dublin and worked in London before moving to Cardigan with her family.

Working with a great team and a supportive husband helps Mrs McAteer balance the demands of motherhood and her profession. She loves her job, which she describes as a vocation, and is able to bring her baby to work with her.

This year the practice will become an approved training centre for NVQs in veterinary nursing, providing much needed career opportunities for school leavers. It also plans to achieve hospital status, to provide specialist 24 hour care.

The centre was established in the Bath House Road surgery, in 2000. "The transition to the new premises was difficult, but thanks to the patience of our clients and hard working, loyal staff we have made it."
