Family and countless friends in the Teifi Valley were saddened to hear of the death, which occurred in Southern Ireland of 61-year-old former Llandysul dental surgeon Doctor Lyndell Davies after a brave fight against cancer.
Dr Davies, who had a home in Ireland and Newcastle Emlyn, was a former local soccer player and current president of Newcastle Emlyn Football Club.
Before leaving for Monday's funeral in Ireland, Emlyn club chairman Geraint Jones said "Lyndell was a real gent who endeared himself to all who came into contact with him.
"We will all miss him, and our thoughts at this time are with his wife Trudy and children William, Edward and Emily."
