A little boy who always had a smile on his face has lost his battle with leukaemia.
Even after he was diagnosed with the disease in August, seven-year-old James Davies always had a smile for everyone he came into contact with - from his chums at Glynarthen Primary School to family, friends and neighbours at Parcllyn and beyond.
James was the son of Ioan and Trish Davies, of 23 Erwlas, Parcllyn, and the brother of Carys (6) and 19-month-old Hefin. He died at Birmingham Children's Hospital on Wednesday where he had only been a patient for a few days.
As those closest to James struggle this week to try to come to terms with his death, his father told the Tivy-Side: "He was always a happy and contented child from the time he first came into the world. "He had a smile on his face for everyone."
His death, said Mr Davies, has touched everyone in the immediate community. "All in James' school and our neighbours and friends have been very kind to us as a family and we greatly appreciate this," he added.
James' headteacher Miss Gwenda Evans said: "We, as a school, were deeply shocked when we heard of James' untimely death. He was a very happy member of our community.
"We shall miss him and he will always be in our thoughts."
A public funeral service will take place at Glynarthen Chapel at 11.00am on Friday, September 2 and interment will follow at Capel Nonni Chapel cemetery, Llanllwni, where James will be laid to rest with his late uncle, Nicholas.
In charge of the funeral arrangements is Mr Maldwyn Lewis, Penrhiwpal, Rhydlewis, Llandysul. Bright and casual dress may be worn.
No flowers, but donations may be given towards Cilgerran Ward; LATCH, and Birmingham Children's Hospital, c/o Miss Gwenda Evans, headteacher Glynarthen CP School.
