Disappointing result

Division Three (West): Birchgrove 36 Cardigan 3

Cardigan finished off what started as a promising season with another disappointing defeat at Birchgrove, although the performances of youth players in No 8 Colin Davies, plus wingers Dean Lewis and Huw Davies was a boost.

Birchgrove scored tries by Simon Hopkins (2), Darren Curtis, Christian Williams and Matthew Morgan as Justin Evans landed three conversions and a penalty. All that Cardigan could manage was an Aled Thomas penalty - and the Cardis will be glad to round off a very long season when Tonmawr visit the King George V ground this Saturday.

Newcastle Emlyn 20 points Aberavon Quins 19 points Newcastle ended their campaign with a nerve-jangling victory over Aberavon Quins, leading 20-7 at one stage and seemingly assured of success until the Quins clawed their way back to a single point to set up a tense finish.

Wingers Duncan Lewis and Carwyn Jones scored tries for Emlyn, both converted to go with a penalty brace by fly half Gareth Jones.

Aberavon Quins replied with tries by Gareth Rice, Vincent Thomas and a penalty try, two converted by Rice as Emlyn completed the double since they had already won by 10-7 in Aberavon.
