Concerns about dangers that could possibly arise from the temporary storage of discarded fridges and freezers at Ceredigion County Council's former depot at Adpar, Newcastle Emlyn, were voiced at last week's Cabinet meeting.
Cllr Alun Lloyd Jones, who holds the environmental services portfolio, initially raised the issue saying that there were concerns as to safety on two counts, the first relating to gases in such appliances and the danger posed to inquisitive children playing near the storage area and getting inside appliances.
Property and works director Rhodri-Gwynn Jones agreed. Such appliances would have to be stacked and stored in a wholly safe and secure location.
Cllr Keith Evans enquired as to whether officers had been in contact with the local member for Adpar, Cllr Lyndon Lloyd Jones, because the council's former Adpar depot lies virtually in the centre of a housing estate. He suggested that a more suitable and safer place for old appliances to be stored would be the council's highways depot out in the country at Penrhos, Llandysul.
Departmental director Mr Jones assured the Cabinet that the concerns expressed by members will be taken fully on board before any temporary storage facility is established.
