Newcastle Emlyn 5 Albion Rovers 1
Putting themselves in exactly the right frame of mind for this SaturdayĆs big showdown with league leaders Dinas Powys, the Reds produced a topnotch second half performance against the visitors from Newport, Gwent.
Emlyn were without injured star striker Gary Davies, but with a strong wind at their backs they made the ideal start with a goal after three minutes.
Gareth 'Inch' Evans was the marksman, his 10 yard effort on the right hand side of the penalty area giving goalkeeper John Pardoe no chance whatsoever.
As the half wore on Stuart Williams went close for Rovers, Pardoe made a brilliant save to deny William Davies, and Emlyn fluffed a number of chances.
With only a solitary goal advantage at the break there was trepidation among home fans, but their favourites switched to a short passing game to such good effect they pulled clear to record a handsome win.
A Huw Evans free kick picked out midfielder Steve 'Gerry' Evans, who flashed home a header, and soon afterwards Huw Evans finished in style, giving his side breathing space.
Gareth Evans ran through from 40 yards and tucked home goal number four before Rovers reduced the deficit through goalkeeper Pardoe, who took up an outfield role after the interval.
William Davies made it a nap hand for Emlyn with a penalty, awarded after Jason Price upended Huw Evans.
